I took a stab at creating a test procedure to be used for performing regular testing of the SBARC repeaters.  My intent is to form a core group of 3-4 local members who will be trained and qualified on the tests described in this procedure and to perform them on a regular basis.

Kindly review the attached draft test procedure and post your comments, questions, additions, or deletions to this Forum topic.  All comments are welcome!

I would like to finalize a procedure and have trained test volunteers ready to begin a regular repeater testing program by January 1, 2008.  This will apply to both the Alto Crest and Camelot repeaters.  Thanks for your interest and support!

The attached .PDF file details the routine tests to be performed on both the Camelot and the Alto Crest Repeaters.  The repeater usage information is available only at the Camelot Repeater, and Jim Edwards, K5JWE has the details on this task.  The repeater usage and battery test at the Camelot Repeater can easily be performed at the same time.

The Alto Crest Repeater tests require a step ladder for access, and Bill, K5LPS and Wayne, W0ZW are both familiar with the battery tests.

Routine tests of the repeater power output should not be performed, as wear and tear on the connectors can cause more trouble than can be gained with the tests.  Ken, W5YFN had to return a duplexer to the factory to have a connector replaced that had broken fingers on the center conductor.  Several hundred dollars were spent getting the connector replaced and the shipping to and from the vendor.

Performance degradation of either repeater would be cause to check the power output and antenna SWR.

Here is a link to a lot of information on maintaining a GE Mastr II Repeater.  Both the Camelot and the Alto Crest Repeaters are built up from GE Mastr II parts.  The link radio is a GE Mastr II Mobile, and most of the components are interchangeable between the repeaters and the link radio.
